UFC Plans October Fan Expo in Houston

As the UFC 129 Fan Expo comes to a close, the promotion is already planning its next fan event.

UFC President Dana White Friday announced that Houston will be the site of the promotion's next Fan Expo Oct. 7-8. Although rumors regarding a possible Oct. 8 fight show have surfaced following White's announcement, there has been no official word from the promotion on the matter.

Houston will be the fifth city to host a UFC Fan Expo, joining Boston, Toronto, London and Las Vegas, which has hosted two such fan events in the past.

Texas has hosted four UFC shows thus far, with the promotion visiting Dallas, Houston, Fort Hood and Austin. The UFC's inaugural trip to the Lone Star State took place at UFC 69 in 2007. The event emanated from the Toyota Center and was headlined by the first bout between Georges St. Pierre and Matt Serra, which saw Serra knock out his favored opponent to win the welterweight title in front of more than 15,000 spectators.

The announcement follows Thursday’s report from ComicBookResources.com, stating that Toronto-based Hobby Star Marketing, Inc., which operates the annual Fan Expo Canada comic book and gaming convention, filed an injunction against UFC parent company Zuffa, LLC, in Toronto’s Federal Court. Hobby Star has reportedly filed trademark infringement charges over use of the “UFC Fan Expo” title, as well as the web domain UFCFanExpo.com and the slogan “The Ultimate Fan Experience.”
