After a day filled with injuries and card changes, the UFC on Fox 4 main card is finally settled with one heavyweight bout being removed all together.
Earlier in the day on Wednesday, Ben Rothwell was confirmed as the latest injury casualty after hurting his ankle and thus forcing out of his scheduled fight with Travis Browne.
The call then went out to former Strikeforce heavyweight Devin Cole who was contacted for the fight with Browne, but ultimately the UFC opted to scrap the idea entirely and put both fighters on future cards instead.
According to sources, Browne had been lobbying hard to remain on the UFC on Fox 4 card after many weeks of training, but the end result was too little, too late.
In the place of the bout between Browne and Rothwell is a welterweight scrap between former Ultimate Fighter season 1 competitor Mike Swick and fellow Ultimate Fighter alum DeMarques Johnson.
Swick and Johnson will now enjoy a spot on the main card headlined by a light heavyweight fight between former champion Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Brandon Vera.
The UFC on Fox 4 card takes place next Saturday night from Los Angeles at the Staples Center.
