Thirty-four-year-old UFC light heavyweight James Te Huna announced that he’s retiring from mixed martial arts competition on his Instagram page on Monday.
Te Huna made his promotional debut at UFC 110 in February 2010 becoming the first New Zealander to complete inside the Octagon. He won five of his first six fights with the promotion, including a Fight of the Night performance against Joey Beltran in July 2012.

Te Huna was sidelined for all of 2015 due to injuries, but returned in March against Steve Bosse at UFC Fight Night 85. He was knocked out in 52 seconds. It was his fourth consecutive loss.
While he’s stepping away from active competition, Te Huna plans to remain in the sport as a promoter. His career spanned 13 years as a professional fighter. His record stands at 16-9.
