Brown appeared to be in serious danger in the opening frame, as Silva rocked “The Immortal” with a kick to the body and then nearly secured a rear-naked choke. The Ohio native recovered and settled into a groove, as he battered the Brazilian with a variety of punches, elbows and knees. On multiple occasions, Brown appeared to be on the verge of a finish, but the Brazilian repeatedly persevered until finally succumbing to a series of standing-to-ground punches at the 2:11 mark of round three.
For prevailing in one of 2014’s most memorable encounters, Brown pocketed an additional $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award.
Nova Uniao product Johnny Eduardo captured the evening’s other “Performance of the Night” honor, taking home $50,000 for his first-round stoppage of Eddie Wineland in their bantamweight showdown. A huge underdog coming into the bout, Eduardo made short work of the former bantamweight No. 1 contender, putting Wineland away with a pair of wicked right hands 4:37 into round one.
