UFC Fight Night 99 results: Gegard Mousasi gets revenge, stops Uriah Hall in first

BELFAST, Northern Ireland – Gegard Mousasi maintained his 2015 loss to Uriah Hall was a “fluke.” He pushed the narrative forward in the rematch.

Mousasi (41-6-2 MMA, 8-3 UFC) avenged his TKO loss with a first-round TKO victory over Hall (12-8 MMA, 5-6 UFC) in their second meeting.

The middleweight fight headlined today’s UFC Fight Night 99 event at SSE Arena Belfast in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The entire event streamed on UFC Fight Pass.

Mousasi entered the rematch on a three-fight winning streak that he put together following his defeat to Hall. That loss, which came with Mousasi as a 4-1 favorite, temporarily derailed the former Strikeforce and DREAM champion’s UFC title hopes. It also provided a little bad blood hitting into their second meeting, which – despite the past loss – put Mousasi as a nearly 6-1 favorite.

As the fight opened, Mousasi, who’s No. 7 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA middleweight rankings, was clearly patient. As No. 15-ranked Hall flashed and threatened with some spinning stuff, Mousasi simply looked for openings for low kicks and an especially stiff jab. However, his first takedown is what shifted the fight to his favor.

After forcing Hall to the mat and pressing him against the cage, Mousasi unloaded a barrage of ground strikes. With Hall trapped and unable to defend himself from the onslaught, the ref was forced to halt the bout at the 4:31 of the opening round.

Mousasi has now won four straight and is back in the thick of the title picture. Hall, meanwhile, has dropped three straight fights and faces an uncertain UFC future.
