MEXICO CITY – Max Griffin’s punches brought a quick end to his second UFC appearance.
Griffin’s (13-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) straight right caught Erick Montano (7-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) flush, sending him headfirst into a heap before more shots forced referee intervention in the first.
The welterweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 98 event at Mexico City Arena in Mexico City. It aired on FS1 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of a main card on FS1.
The bout was over just 54 seconds after it started. Montano was not intelligently defending himself after getting flattened and referee Jerin Valel was forced to wave off the bout. Montano did not protest the stoppage.
It was a strong reversal for Griffin, who was pounded out by Colby Covington in the third round of his octagon debut at UFC 202. Montano, the brother of UFC welterweight Augusto Montano and winner of “The Ultimate Fighter Latin America 2,” has dropped two straight since winning the reality show.
