Alex Oliveira picked up the biggest win of his career. Then things got weird.
In the co-main event, Oliveira (16-3-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC) hurt Will Brooks’ (19-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) rib early in the fight, which caused problems for the former Bellator champion the rest of the way. By the third round, despite landing a couple takedowns earlier, Brooks was in trouble and Oliveira took advantage and pounded him out for a TKO win.
But when “Cowboy” got up to celebrate his victory, he made a couple not-so-polite gestures in Brooks’ direction and did a bit of jaw jacking. Brooks, despite the agony of the injured rib, got up and had to be restrained from going after Oliveira, but did manage to throw his mouthpiece at him.
The lightweight bout was part of the main card of UFC Fight Night 96 at Moda Center in Portland, Ore. It aired on FS1 following prelims on FS2 and UFC Fight Pass.
