UFC Fight Night 86 results: Alejandro Perez punches Ian Entwistle into submission

ZAGREB, Croatia – To no one’s surprise, Alejandro Perez found himself defending Ian Entwistle’s leg lock attempts early and often.

But when Entwistle (9-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) failed to finish those submissions, that’s when Perez (17-6 MMA, 3-1 UFC) went to work, battering him with punches until referee Grant Waterman stepped in to call it off due to a verbal submission at the 4:04 mark of Round 1.

The bantamweight bout was part of today’s UFC Fight Night 86 preliminary card at Zagreb Arena in Zagreb, Croatia. Like the main card, it aired on FOX Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

Entwistle wasted no time attacking Perez’s legs, as he is known to do. But after Perez slipped out of his initial attempts, Entwistle complained to the ref that Perez’s legs were illegally greased to help him slip out of submissions.

Waterman took the accusation seriously, pausing the bout and removing his glove to check Perez’s leg with his bare hand. He restarted the bout shortly thereafter, telling Entwistle he found no evidence of grease.

Entwistle didn’t appear to agree with that assessment, but he didn’t alter his gameplan either. He continued attacking Perez’s legs, and at several points seemed like he might be on the verge of finishing a heel hook.

But Perez was ready, and after defending against the leg locks he let fly with a barrage of right hands that eventually wore Entwistle down and left him stuck on the bottom.

As Perez claimed top position and hammered away, Entwistle seemed to give up entirely on either securing a leg or escaping the position, and soon Waterman stepped in, calling a halt due to a verbal submission.

Perez has now won two in a row in the UFC. Entwistle has lost two of his last three.
