PITTSBURGH – MMAjunkie was on scene and reporting live from today’s UFC Fight Night 83 fighter weigh-ins, where all but one fighter made weight.
The festivities took place at Stage AE in Pittsburgh. The nearby CONSOL Energy Center hosts Sunday’s card, which airs on FOX Sports 1 after early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.
The event features the welterweight debut of recent lightweight title challenger Donald Cerrone (28-7 MMA, 15-4 UFC), who meets Brazil’s Alex Oliveira (14-2-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) in a “Cowboy” vs. “Cowboy” main event. Cerrone weighed 170 pounds while Oliveira was 171.
In the co-feature, Derek Brunson (14-3 MMA, 5-1 UFC), who weighed 186, takes on Roan Carneiro (20-9 MMA, 3-3 UFC), who tipped the scale at 184.5, in a middleweight bout.
Main-card fighter and late replacement Augusto Mendes (5-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) came in heavy for his bout with Cody Garbrandt (7-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC). Originally a bantamweight affair, it’s now a 142-pound catchweight fight. Mendes was fined 20 percent of his purse, 16 commission of which goes to his opponent and 4 percent to the commission.
