UFC Fight Night 82 results: Beastly Derrick Lewis makes easy work of Damian Grabowski

LAS VEGAS – Derrick Lewis stopped one takedown attempt from Damian Grabowski, then nabbed one of his own.

After that, Lewis (14-4 MMA, 5-2 UFC) never gave Grabowski (20-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) a chance to get up, punishing him with heavy punches on the mat until referee Mark Smith was forced to step in at the 2:17 mark of Round 1, handing Lewis the TKO victory.

The heavyweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 82 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of a main card on FOX Sports 1.

The story of the brief fight was Lewis’ raw power. After backing Grabowski up with an attempted head kick in the first minute, Lewis executed a nice sprawl to stop Grabowski’s takedown attempt, then easily tossed him to the floor in the ensuing scramble.

From there, Lewis kept the pressure on with one bomb from top position after another, pinning Grabowski down under heavy fire. Grabowski tried to work back to his feet, but only opened himself up to more strikes in the process. After Lewis tossed Grabowski’s legs to the side and hammered him with a plummeting right hand that made Grabowski roll to his side and cover up, the referee Smith had seen all he needed to and stepped in to stop it.

The victory makes it two in a row in the UFC for Lewis, whose last loss came via TKO to Shawn Jordan in June 2015. Grabowski comes away with a loss in his UFC debut, and his second loss in three fights.
