UFC Fight Night 81 results: Charles Rosa outlasts game Kyle Bochniak for decision

Charles Rosa

Charles Rosa

BOSTON – Kyle Bochniak was game against Charles Rosa, despite coming into the bout on only four day’s notice. However, Rosa was able to outlast the debuting Bochniak to take a unanimous decision.

The featherweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 81 event at TD Garden in Boston. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass ahead of additional prelims and a main card on FOX Sports 1.

Bochniak (6-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) came out loose and looking to connect with kicks while Rosa (11-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) moved on the outside. Bochniak dropped Rosa with a solid shot, but almost found himself in a leg lock as he attempted to follow the action to the floor. Rosa continued to throw slow side kicks for the remainder of the round but had little effective offense outside of the occasional leg kick the remainder of the opening frame.

Bochniak landed another hard right early in Round 2, but Rosa was damaging the legs with his own heavy kicks. Bochniak stuffed a takedown attempt before landing a hard knee and punch in the clinch and moving back to striking distance.

As Rosa began to execute his gameplan with patient striking that bloodied Bochniak’s nose, he scored a takedown and landed some ground and pound attacks before the fight moved back to the feet. In the waning moments of the round, Bochniak scored with his own takedown.

Rosa opened Round 3 with a heavy leg kick to the already deeply bruised leg of Bochniak.

Bochniak unloaded with heavy punches and knees that landed solidly to the chin of Rosa, but they were absorbed well before Rosa returned fire with his own heavy shots. Bochniak closed the fight with a badly bloody nose, cut under his eye and awful bruising on his left leg.

The judges all saw the fight for the same fighter, scoring the bout 29-28, 29-28, 30-27 all for Rosa, who rebounded from a loss to Yair Rodriguez at UFC 188 in his most recent fight. Bochniak suffered his first career defeat in the bout.
