UFC Fight Night 80 post-fight facts: Rose Namajunas all over the record books

The UFC’s first non-title women’s main event was a memorable one. Rose Namajunas delivered one of the most one-sided performances of the year with a fifth-round submission victory over Paige VanZant.

Namajunas’ (4-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) submission of VanZant (6-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) closed the show at UFC Fight Night 80, an event that featured 10 stoppages in 12 fights.

Rose Namajunas and Paige VanZant

Namajunas, Tim Means, Michael Chiesa and Jim Miller earned $50,000 UFC Fight Night 80 fight-night bonuses.

UFC Fight Night 80 drew an announced attendance of 1,643 for a live gate of 234,725 at the intimate Vegas venue.

Betting favorites went 8-3 on the card. One fight ended in a no-contest.

Total fight time for the 12-bout card was 1:49:35.

Namajunas earned her second UFC victory in a 68-day stretch. She earned a submission victory over Angela Hill at UFC 192 in October.

Namajunas’ two-fight UFC winning streak in strawweight competition is tied with Juliana Lima and Tecia Torres for the second longest active streak in the division behind champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk (five).

Namajunas’ submission victory at the 2:25 mark of Round 5 marked the latest stoppage in UFC strawweight history and the latest stoppage ever in a women’s UFC fight.

Miller (25-7 MMA, 14-6 UFC) suffered just the second submission loss of his more than 10-year career.

Sage Northcutt

Sage Northcutt (7-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has earned all seven of his career victories by stoppage.

Northcutt, 19, became the youngest fighter in UFC history to earn two octagon victories.

Cody Pfister (12-5-1 MMA, 1-2 UFC) has suffered four of his five career losses by submission.

Thiago “Marreta” Santos (12-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) earned his first decision victory since Nov. 26, 2011 – a span of 1,475 days (more than four years) and 10 fights.

Elias Theodorou (11-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) had his 11-fight winning streak snapped for the first defeat of his career.

Means (25-7-1 MMA, 7-4 UFC) improved to 5-2 since he returned to the UFC for a second stint in May 2014.

Means has earned 21 of his 25 career victories by stoppage.

John Howard (23-12 MMA, 7-7 UFC) fell to 3-4 since he returned to the UFC for a second stint in August 2013.

Sergio Moraes’ (10-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) four-fight UFC winning streak in welterweight competition is tied for the second longest active streak in the division behind Stephen Thompson (five).

Moraes earned the first knockout victory of his career.

Omari Akhmedov (14-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) fell to 2-2 since he dropped to the UFC welterweight division in May 2014.

Aljamain Sterling’s (12-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) four-fight UFC winning streak in bantamweight competition is tied for the second longest active streak in the division behind Raphael Assuncao (seven).

Sterling has earned three of his four UFC victories by stoppage.

Johnny Eduardo (27-10 MMA, 2-2 UFC) suffered his first submission loss since July 7, 2007 – a span of 3,078 days (more than eight years) and 15 fights.

Eduardo has suffered eight of his 10 career losses by submission.

Santiago Ponzinibbio (21-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) has earned 18 of his 21 career victories by stoppage. He has earned 14 of those finishes in the first round.

Ponzinibbio has earned 10 of his past 11 victories by stoppage.

Andreas Stahl (9-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) suffered consecutive losses for the first time in his career.

Stahl suffered the first knockout loss of his career.

Danny Roberts

Danny Roberts (12-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has earned 10 of his 12 career victories by stoppage.

Nathan Coy (14-6 MMA, 0-1 UFC) suffered his first submission loss since Oct. 4, 2008 – a span of 2,623 days (more than seven years) and 14 fights.

Zubaira Tukhugov (18-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC) extended his career-high winning streak to nine consecutive fights. He hasn’t suffered a defeat since May 2012.

Phillipe Nover (11-6-1 MMA, 1-4 UFC) has suffered five of his six career losses by decision.

Kailin Curran (4-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) snapped a two-fight losing skid for her first victory since February 2014.

Curran earned the first submission loss of her career.

Emily Kagan (3-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) fell to 1-3 in her past four career fights. She hasn’t earned a victory since July 2013.

Kagan has suffered both of her career stoppage losses by submission.
