UFC Fight Night 79 results: Fredy Serrano sets record, stops injured Yao Zhikui

SEOUL – Fredy Serrano got a quick – and initially confusing – win over Yao Zhikui.

Zhikui (2-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) quickly charged forward with a burst of strikes, but Serrano (3-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) scooped him up, slammed him to the mat, and forced a quick stoppage after his opponent injured his arm on the way back to the mat.

The flyweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 79 event at Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass.

Serrano, a 2008 Olympic wrestler who had a brief run on “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America,” had little time to showcase his skills in just his third official pro bout, which followed a “Performance of the Night” win over Bentley Syler in March. After Serrano slammed Zhikui to the mat, the ref wisely halted the bout, though it wasn’t initially clear why.

However, a replay showed the fighter’s arm taking a nasty turn once it hit the mat (via Twitter):

The victory over Zhikui, a “TUF: China” semifinalist, came in just 44 seconds. It set a record for the 125-pound division (via Twitter):
