MONTERREY, Mexico – A height and size advantage proved no stumbling block for Peru native Enrique Barzola, who ground-and-pounded Horacio Gutierrez to win the lightweight bracket of “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 2.”
In a performance that would’ve made Georges St-Pierre smile, Barzola (11-2-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) picked up a unanimous decision by executing takedown after takedown on Gutierrez (2-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and allowing no escape from punches and elbows.
The “TUF: Latin America 2” lightweight final bout was part of the main card of today’s UFC Fight Night 78 event at Monterrey Arena in Monterrey, Mexico. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
The final scores were 30-27 twice and 30-26 for Barzola, who picks up his first professional UFC win and earns a six-figure contract with the promotion. After two wins on “TUF,” Gutierrez goes back to the drawing board and loses his second straight pro bout.
