UFC Fight Night 47 results, photos: Sara McMann vs. Lauren Murphy

BANGOR, Maine – Sara McMann‘s explosive takedowns and smothering wrestling got the job done against former Invicta FC bantamweight champ Lauren Murphy, even though one judge argued against her on the scorecards.

Two judges gave McMann the fight by scores of 29-28 while one dissented in favor of Murphy by a score of 29-28. It was Murphy’s first loss as a pro and a bitter setback.

The women’s bantamweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 47 at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine. It aired on FOX Sports 2 ahead of a main card on FOX Sports 1.

The split-call resulted from a classic issue in MMA judging, as McMann spent much of the fight on top of Murphy, sporadically landing punches and elbows to the body and head. Murphy, though, was frequently more active from the bottom, landing punishing elbows to McMann’s head, which created an argument for a score in her favor.

Ultimately, McMann’s (8-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) work on the mat, combined with some solid right hands to the body and head, won the day. The 2004 Olympic silver medalist gets back in the win column after falling prey to champ Ronda Rousey in her previous outing in February at UFC 170. Murphy (8-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) takes her first loss after winning the Invicta title this past December via fourth-round TKO.
