UFC Fight Night 36 play-by-play and live results


JARAGUA DO SUL, Brazil – MMAjunkie is on scene and reporting live from today’s UFC Fight Night 36 event.

The card, which features a middleweight bout between former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and former Strikeforce champ Gegard Mousasi in the main event, takes place at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

DOUGLAS DE ANDRADE (22-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) VS. ZUBAIRA TUKHUGOV (16-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC)

Round 1 – Tukhugov walks forward, where de Andrade stands and waits. De Andrade circles left on the outside. Low kick scores as the first blow for de Andrade. Tukhugov in the center, and he fires a spinning kick. De Andrade stays away and kicks the leg. Patient start from both. Tukhugov catches a kick and sweeps de Andrade to the floor, but de Andrade quickly back to his feet after eating a few punches. Tukhugov holding the center again. Spinning backfist blocked by de Andrade, who again kicks the leg. Kicks traded, and he Andrade is caught with a counter right that sends him to the floor. He pops back up, but he’s bloodied. Cut over his eye. Referee Osiris Maia calls time to bring the doctor in, but we fight on. De Andrade has blood leaking down his chest. Tukhugov drives in with a takedown and delivers some damage on the floor before de Andrade climbs back up. Tons of blood. Round ends, and MMAjunkie gives it to Tukhugov, 10-9.

Round 2 – Tukhugov relaxed to start the second. De Andrade is cleaned up, but the cut still evident. Tukhugov with a big kick to the body under a lead left. Spinning kick from Tukhugov to the body. De Andrade misses on a strike. He’s trying to turn up the volume a bit, but Tukhugovis ready. De Andrade kicks the leg and then moves in with a flurry. Tukhugov answers back with a few crisp punches before moving inside. Tukhugov wants a takedown, but de Andrade pulls free. Halfway point in the fight. Tukhugov certainly the looser of the two fighters. De Andrade kicks the leg, but Tukhugov looks fresher and stronger. De Andrade rushes forward with punches that come up short. His hands are low. He tries a spinning kick, but Tukhugov pushes inside and nullifies it before driving for a takedown that won’t come. Tukhugov backs away and briefly stumbles into Maia before backing away. Tukhugov misses on a spinning strike and eats a counter. Tukhugov throws another one anyway. Punches traded to close, and MMAjunkie leans again toward Tukhugov, 10-9.

Round 3 – Tukhugov takes the center. He opens with a few punches and still looks a touch quicker than de Andrade. Tukhugov pressing. De Andrade does land a few counters, but he’s struggling to put it all together. They flurry in the pocket, and the crowd comes alive. De Andrade does score during the exchange, but so does Tukhugov. Spinning kick from Tukhugov that nearly scores to the groin. Tukhugov’s volume has slowed, and de Andrade is throwing with power. He might want to just make this a brawl. Tukhugov pushes inside again. They continue to trade shots. It’s very even in those exchanges, but Tukhugov is the one who’s initiating the trades. Tukhugov shoots in but still can’t score the takedown. He takes a deep breath. He does get the takedown in a scramble, but de Andrade quickly up and away. Crisp left from Tukhugov on the restart. Another scores. Tukhugov is too technical. He lands a spinning backfist. De Andrade is exhausted, but he swings away, too. Fun fight to start the night. MMAjunkie gives the third again to Tukhugov, awarding him the fight 30-27.

ILDEMAR ALCANTARA (20-6 MMA, 3-1 UFC) VS. ALBERT TUMENOV (12-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC)

Round 1 – Alcantara with an early kick that Tumenov catches and counters. Alcantara the bigger man. He kicks the body again, but Tumenov counters with a straight punch. Tumenov closing the distance and fires a lead left. Alcantara answers shortly after with two clean shots. Tumenovscores with a left and drops Alcantara. He doesn’t stay there long. Alcantara up and drives in for a takedown, but Tumenov with a slick sweep to the top. Tumenov is bloodied, but he’s in top position. Hammerfists from the top. Tumenov postures and punches. Alcantara shifts his hips high, but Tumenov is just pounding away. Tumenov’s face covered in blood, but he punches and punches. Elbows come in, but Alcantara is game, and he eventually woks back to his feet with a little less than 90 seconds left. Tumenov reaches in with a punch, an Alcantara ducks it and scores with another takedown. Tumenov looks for options. Alcantara finishes strong with punches. Fun first round. MMAjunkie gives it to Tumenov, 10-9.

Round 2 – Spilled ice in Tumenov’s corner slows the start of the second. Alcantara switches stances and lands with a knee inside. He wants a takedown, but Tumenov shows nice balance and stays upright. Alcantara stays inside and keeps working and finally does take it to the floor. Tumenov with half-guard underneath. Cut near Tumenov’s left eye streaming blood. Alcantara controlling on top, and he gets to the back as he looks for mount. Tumenov turns in to give up mount but then slips up and out after eating a big elbow. Halfway mark of the fight. Good start to the second for Alcantara. He’s controlling the positioning as they clinch against the cage. Referee Keith Peterson breaks them apart. Tumenov bloodied but it’s not problematic for now. Alcantara with a quick takedown on the restart. He drives in a few tough elbows. Tumenov may have punches himself out in the first. He looks exhausted. Blood getting worse for Tumenov. Alcantara finishes on top, and he takes the round on the MMAjunkie card, 10-9.

Round 3 – Crowd chants to open the third of this back-and-forth matchup. Alcantara’s shorts soaked with his opponent’s blood. Tumenov definitely looks exhausted, but he walks forward. Alcantara slow to attack, as Tumenov holds the center. Alcantara kicks the body. Tumenov pushes forward with punches. He scores again with a nice right. Alcantara seems to have this fight there for the taking but isn’t turning up the hear. lood trickling down Tumenov’s face. He eats a few jabs. Spinning backfist misses for Tumenov. Alcantara kicks to the body. Less than two minutes. Fight is there for the taking. Nice left hand for Alcantara. Blood really flowing down Tumenov now, and he eats a straight. Right hand scores for Tumenov. Alcantara ducks and looks for a takedown. Not there. They trade single punches. Alcantara patient, but he does just enough and takes the round on the MMAjunkie card, 10-9, earning the fight 29-28.

Round 1 – Blanco out quickly, and he wants a takedown. Arantes defends it and looks to trade. Quick start. Blanco keeps the pressure high, but Arantes avoiding much damage in the early going. Blanco works the body and then drives forward with more strikes before pulling Arantes to the canvas. Arantes has half-guard underneath. Blanco postures, and Arantes crawls to his feet. Arantes starts quickly with strikes now. High kick scores. Left hand lands. Blanco absorbs it and goes back to the body. Blanco again digs to the body. Arantes covers up against the cage and then punches his way out of trouble. High pace to open this fight. Spinning kicks scores glancingly for Arantes. Arantes kicks the leg. He tries again, but Blanco pulls away. Arantes rushes forward with strikes. Right hand lands flush, and Blanco is down. Arantes tries to get to the neck. It’s not there. Blanco now defending and armbar, but he pulls free. Bell sounds, and MMAjunkie gives the round to Arantes on the late work, 10-9.

Round 2 – Blanco looks OK to start the second, and he’s out quickly. He sweeps the leg and sends Arantes to the floor. Blanco quickly forward and into Arantes’s guard. Arantes wants the arm, but Blanco picks him up and slams his way free. Arantes back up to his feet, and now he’s looking for the takedown. Blanco stays upright and pushes him away. Arantes moves in with two punches that score. Halfway into the round, and Arantes with a leaping knee. Arantes looks fresher as he moves in from the outside. He kicks the body, but Blanco pulls away from the cage. Arantes scoring with crisp straights, and he just misses on a big right. Blanco drives in for a takedown. He settles again into Arantes’ guard. Arantes tries to bring his legs high. Nothing there, so he ties up the arms to keep Blanco from striking. Not a lot happening, as Arantes holds for the standup. Referee Mario Yamasaki gives it, and Arantes busy again on the feet. Close round, but MMAjunkie leans slightly toward Blanco with the takedowns, 10-9.

Round 3 – Blanco looks to push early once more. He drives to the body. Arantes answers with two straights up top. Blanco grabs a leg, and Arantes scrambles free. Arantes loads up on a right. Blanco kicks the groin, and it’s a direct hit. Arantes crumples to the floor. Arantes in obvious pain, but he eventually gets back to his feet. Referee Yamsaki takes a point for the blow, but we carry on. Not sure if that was warranted, but it’s done. Blanco turns up the heat. Arantes right there, too. Arantes answers back. They scramble to the floor, and Arantes turns for an arm. Blanco pulls free and moves to his feet. Arantes underneath and looking for a takedown, and he gets it. Blanco won’t stay down, and he gets up and away. Less than two minutes remain. Arantes again shoots for the legs. Blanco defends against the fence. They work in the clinch, but Yamsaki breaks them with just under 50 seconds. Flurries from both on the restart. Arantes is quickly inside again and pressing forward. Blanco looks like he’s fine agains the fence. Round ends there, and MMAjunkie leans toward Arantes, 10-8 with the deduction, giving him the fight 29-27.

YURI ALCANTARA (29-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) VS. WILSON REIS (17-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC)

Round 1 – Quick start from both, and Alcantara appears to be staggered by an early punch. Reis sees it and rushes forward. Big scramble follows, and Reis wants the back, but Alcantara pulls free and settles into the top position. Reis continues to scramble, and he rolls and gets himself back to the feet. Reis tight to the body and wants the toss, but Alcantara counters and falls to mount. Reis immediately sweeps to the top. Great exchanges here on the floor. Not enough action for the referee though, and we go back to the feet. Alcantara with quick hands on the restart. Reis gets back inside on a takedown. Alcantara defends against the cage, and we break. Alcantara scores with a straight, and Reis hits the floor. Reis is staggered. Alcantara gets on top, but Reis gets immediately back to his feet. Tense moments there, and we continue to see changes in momentum. Reis grabs a kick and walks forward, scoring another takedown. Alcantara reverses the position and finishes on the back. Fun round, and MMAjunkie gives it to Alcantara, 10-9.

Round 2 – Alcantara to the center, and Reis circles left. He misses on a kick to the leg. Alcantara left hand sends Reis to the floor. He’s hurt. Yet Reis again scrambles and recovers, actually transitioning to mount. Another opportunity lost for Alcantara. Reis heavy on top. Alcantara turns and gets his feet to the cage, then uses the leverage to push over for a sweep. Reis turns for an arm. Not there. He looks to escape, but Alcantara presses back in and keeps the top spot. Alcantara postures and delivers a big left hand. Yet Reis scrambles up and counters again with a takedown. One minute left, but Reis is going to need to do something special to steal. Alcantara has guard underneath. Short elbows there for Reis. Round ends with Reis on top, but MMAjunkie gives the second to Alcantara, 10-9.

Round 3 – Alcantara holds the center. Reis trying to dart in and out of range. Big punches traded again. Alcantara using his reach well. Alcantara scores with another big left hand. He’s using his reach to his advantage. Reis switching stances, but Alcantara scores with another left. Reis gets inside on a takedown. Alcantara defends well, but Reis continues to grind on the effort and does get the action to the floor. Reis in a dominant position. Alcantara sits up and gets his back to the cage. Reis controlling the body and drags his opponent back to the floor. Reis trying to posture and punch with less than two minutes remaining. Crowd booing a bit, but Reis is in top control. Alcantara finally find space and gets back to his feet with one minute left. Alcantara circles off the cage. Knees traded inside, but none landing with much forces. Alcantara gets a late takedown. He hammerfists to close the round. MMAjunkie still gives Reis the third, 10-9, but awards the fight to Alcantara, 29-28.

Round 1 – Trinaldo with an early kick to the thigh. Ronson answers. Ronson has the center. Ronson again chops the leg. Trinaldo does the same. Ronson punches to the body. He punches up top, as well. Trinaldo kicks the leg again. Ronson the busier fighter to start. Trinaldo moving well, favoring low kicks in the early going. Ronson working in kicks to the body as well. Trinaldo finally gets his hands going and scores a few crisp shots to the chin before loading up on the body. Ronson is staggered a bit. Trinaldo grabs a Thai clinch. Ronson finally breaks free. Trinaldo back to work with his hands. Lead uppercut scores flush. Trinaldo with another clinch and a knee to the gut. Trinaldo circles on the outside. One minute left. Ronson looks to have recovered pretty well. Trinaldo actually staggers to the ground after an off-balance charge. Missed spinning kick from Trinaldo, and even Ronson has to smile. Round ends in a flurry, and MMAjunkie leans toward Trinaldo, 10-9.

Round 2 – Trinaldo starting quicker this time. Ronson again gets the center of the cage and looks to use kicks from distance. Trinaldo catches one but can’t capitalize then fires a high kick of his own shortly after. Trinaldo loading up o his punches now but not scoring with them. He chops the leg. Ronson staying very busy. His volume is adding up. Trinaldo again clinches around the neck, but Ronson circles away. Halfway mark. Ronson with a nice right. Both fighters still with plenty n the tank and willingly exchanging. Trinaldo shoots in for a takedown, but Ronson alertly counters and moves back to his feet. Final minute, and both men swinging. Spinning kick from Ronson scores and staggers Trinaldo. Ronson moves in, and they work from the clinch. Trinaldo with a trip from the clinch to close, but MMAjunkie gives the second to Ronson, 10-9.

Round 3 – Big punches from both to start the final round. Trinaldo with a crisp shot to start. Trinaldo circling on the outside, and Ronson scores with a right. Ronson seems to be the fresher fighter. Trinaldo is settling for haymakers, but Ronson is doing a hood job of avoiding them and offering technical counterstrikes. Big Trinaldo punch to the body. Nice punches traded. Trinaldo having more success now, but Ronson is holding the center of the cage. Trinaldo looks for the takedown. Ronson with a nice whizzer to counter, but Trinaldo gets to the back. Ronson keeps the neck safe, but Trinaldo drives in several knees. Ronson defends and finally gets away, but that was a lot of time in a bad spot. Trinaldo digging deep, and he’s controlling against the fence. He scores a late takedown. MMAjunkie sees the final round for Trinaldo, 10-9, giving him the fight 29-28.

Round 1 – Jorge with a few early punches from the center as he bounces and changes levels. Damm patient to start as he stays at distance. Damm kicks the thigh. Two more shots follow to the leg. Jorge scores with a nice left hand. Jorge continues to kick the leg, as well. Both trying to chop the other down. Jorge goes to the body and then lands with a left. He puts together three punches and a kick. Damm looks explosive, but he’s losing the volume battle for now. Damm lands a clean left on a missed Jorge kick. Damm now back to the legs. Damm really crisp now on his counters. He’s dialed in on Jorge’s attacks. Still, Jorge pressing forward. He flurries to close, and MMAjunkie gives the first to Jorge, 10-9.

Round 2 – Jorge out quickly and scores, sending Damm to scurry to the right. Jorge high kick just misses. Damm no walks forward with punches. He capitalized well in the latter stages of the first, but Jorge looks a little too fat right now. Jorge with a nice overhand right. They exchange again, and Jorge complains of an eye poke. He takes a brief break, but we carry on. Jorge looks charged on the restart. Now it’s Damm complaining of an eye poke. Jorge doesn’t seem to think there was an issue, but referee Mario Yamasaki does call for time. Only a brief break, and we fight on. Again they look fired up on the restart. Damm again finding his rhythm. Halfway marl. Jorge misses on a high kick. Jorge lands with an overhand right. Damm answers. Damm defends a takedown and scores flush. Neither fighter really owning this fight. Damm starting to land more frequently, and Jorge is actually having to move backward at this point. Jorge cut under his right eye. Round ends, and MMAjunkie gives it to Damm, 10-9.

Round 3 – Damm catches an early kick and sends Jorge to the floor. From there, Damm gets to the back in a crucifix, but Jorge rolls free and attacks with a D’Arc choke from the front position. Damm looks OK, and het gets free and back to his feet. Spirited exchanges on the feet. Damm looks to have been tagged, but he’s throwing down. He looks to attack in the arm. They scramble to the floor, but Jorge pulls free. Damm looks exhausted. He’s bleeding a bit from the left eye. Crowd comes to life in the final two minutes. They want to will these guys to a strong finish. Instead, Damm catches Jorge in the groin with a front kick, and we take another break. Jorge recovers quickly, and we start again. Jorge pressing forward. Both men bloodied, and they go back to work. Jorge looking for a takedown that won’t come. Two tired fighters going at it. Jorge with a nice left hand. The round ends, and MMAjunkie gives it to Jorge, 10-9, awarding him the fight 29-28. Judges disagree, and it goes the other way. Crowd boos the result.

Round 1 – Marcello with an early low kick as he circles on the outside. Proctor looking to stalk from the center. he latches on to the neck and wants to squeeze the guillotine but ultimately lets it go. Marcello circles off the cage and locks the body. He drops for a single-leg takedown. He gets it, and Proctor again wants to attack the neck. Marcello waits through it and pops free. Proctor with guard, and he tries to get his legs high. Marcello stands and tries to pass the legs. He can only get past the right leg, and Proctor holds half-guard. Marcello stands, and Proctor just misses an upkick. Marcello drops back to attack the right leg. Proctor grimaces but defends well, eventually getting back to his feet. Proctor again looks for the guillotine on the feet, but Marcello pulls his head free. Marcello misses on a spinning kick. Round ends, and MMAjunkie gives it to Marcello, 10-9.

Round 2 – Proctor smiles as they go back to work. He’s looking to strike, and he just misses a big right hand. Proctor kicks, and as Marcello counters, he winds up needing to defend his neck yet again. Marcello tries to get inside for the takedown. Not there. Proctor defending we this round and staying upright. He’s landing well with his hands, as well, but continues to look for chances to attack the neck. Marcello looks to be slowing a bit. Proctor backing away and loading up on his punches. That’s definitely his best area right now. Marcello misses a spinning kick, and he’s going to need to recharge. MMAjunkie gives it to Proctor, 10-9, and the crowd boos as they go to the corner.

Round 3 – Proctor out quickly, and he staggers Marcello with an early combination. They trade punches in a brief flurry, but it’s definitely Proctor getting the best of it. He kicks the leg. Crowd again lets the fighters know they want action. Proctor popping him with a crisp left. Marcello wants a takedown, but it’s not going to come. Marcello misses a big overhand, and Proctor smiles. Marcello staggered again. Proctor is in control. Right hand wobbles Marcello. Another follows. Marcello showing heart, but Proctor is about to finish this fight. The right hand continues to land. Marcello exhausted, but he’s trying to stay in the pocket. He’s short on a takedown. Another right hand lands for Proctor. Proctor with a combination. Final 30 seconds. Proctor’s nose is bloodied, but he’s in control. The two hug at the end, and the crowd boos. MMAjunkie gives it to Proctor, 10-9, giving him the fight 29-28.

ANDY OGLE (9-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC) VS. CHARLES OLIVEIRA (17-4 MMA, 5-4 UFC)

Round 1 – Ogle quickly forward. The taller Oliveira grabs a clinch, but Ogle pulls away. Oliveira presses forward for a takedown, and he’s immediately on top. Oliveira moves to mount. Ogle turns, giving up his back. Ogle stands, and Oliveira locks in a figure-four around his body. Ogle remains on his feet, supporting the full weight of both fighters. Oliveira uses elbows from behind to open up space. The fighters fall back as Oliveira still hunts for the choke. Ogle refusing to go away, but he’s also in a bad spot and has been just about the whole time. Two minutes remain. Oliveira adjusts his legs as Ogle rolls. Ogle continues to defends the choke. Oliveira is stuck on his back. Ogle continues to turn and look for a way out of this trouble. Oliveira won’t get the choke, but he gets the opening round on the MMAjunkie card, 10-9.

Round 2 – Ogle defends an early takedown. Oliveira relentless though and immediately scores with a second effort. Ogle alertly spins in a transition and moves to top position. Oliveira eventually stands, and Ogle backs away. Oliveira again to the takedown, and this time he gets it in the center of the cage. Ogle scrambles to his feet. On the restart, Oliveira again wants the takedown. Great scrambling from Ogle, but Oliveira turns to attack the neck. Ogle survives it and briefly turns for his own choke before the push up to the feet. They stall against the fence before Ogle picks Oliveira up and slams him to the floor. Oliveira again tries to grab the neck, but there’s no pressure on it. Oliveira pushes his legs high and looks for potential submissions, but Ogle postures and keeps himself safe. Oliveira crawls to his feet and lands a solid knee before getting to the back in the final seconds. MMAjunkie leans toward Oliveira, 10-9, though Ogle made it close with his control time.

Round 3 – Oliveira just misses a big front kick. He follows with a left that sends Ogle to the floor. Oliveira follows, but a gritty Ogle escapes and gets back to his feet. Oliveira wants a guillotine. It’s not there, and Ogle pops free as Oliveira falls to his back. They eventually move back to the feet. Ogle wants to scrap, but Oliveira using his long limbs to keep him away. They hit the ground again in a scramble, and Ogle is again on top. Halfway through the final round. Oliveira gets his legs high, and the triangle choke is in. Ogle is stuck, and there’s a quick tap.

Round 1 – Musoke holds the center as Andrade slides to the right. Musoke with his hands high, and he kicks the body. Big punches traded, but Andrade drops down and drives Musoke to the floor. Andrade looking to posture and strike. Musoke gets to a knee and back to his feet before pushing his opponent away. Musoke with a stiff jab. Andrade with a big overhand right, and Musoke is down. Andrade raises his arms to celebrate, but referee Keith Peterson doesn’t think he’s done enough. Andrade pushes in to finish the job, but Musoke controls his wrist and tries to attack the arm. Tense moment, but he pulls free and settles back on top. Musoke recovers and pushes back to the feet. Musoke with a stiff jab. Andrade throwing wild, but it’s definitely powerful. Meanwhile, Musoke tighter with his shots, and he’s climbing back into this fight. They trade to close, and MMAjunkie gives the first to Andrade, 10-9.

Round 2 – Musoke moves quickly forward and looks to trade. Andrade with another big overhand right that just misses. Musoke pushes inside and locks the body. He drags Andrade to the floor, but it’s only briefly. Still, he stays very tight. Andrade eventually pulls away. He lands to the body as he retreats and looks to strike. Musoke gaining some momentum. Stiff straight and a high kick to the face. Takedown for Musoke. Halfway into the fight, and Musoke has recovered nicely from that terrible start. Musoke postures and tries to move past the legs. He’s looking to strike from the dominant spot. Crowd wants more action, but Musoke is doing just enough to stay safe on top. Andrade trying to tie things up, but Musoke sneaks in a few driving elbows from the top. Round ends with Musoke on top, and MMAjunkie gives it to him, 10-9.

Round 3 – Musoke seems the sharper fighter right now. Andrade still throwing with power, but the wild nature of the blows is making it easier for Musoke to evade. Musoke gets inside and locks the body again. He wants the back. He gets to it with a little effort, and he drags Andrade to the floor. Musoke is firmly in the position. Andrade controlling the hands and preventing the choke, but Musoke is racking up valuable time in control. Ninety seconds left. Time ticking away fro Andrade. Musoke still hunting for the choke. One minute remains. Crowd boos. They want action, but Musoke has earned the position. Andrade tries to punch behind him, but that’s not doing much. Musoke finishes on the back, and he takes the round on the MMAjunkie card, 10-9, giving him the fight 29-28.

Round 1 – Carmont fakes a few early kicks, seeing a reaction from Souza. Carmont kicks the body. He’s certainly the bigger man. Carmont stays at distance early. Souza rushes in with a punch and gets immediately to the back and brings the action to the floor. Souza with the figure-four around the body. Carmont battles the hands to keep his neck free, but he’s definitely in a bad spot. Carmont tries to spin free, but Souza stays on his back and keeps looking for the finish. Souza works and finally gets the left arm under the chin. He’s squeezing, but Carmont refuses to give in. Somehow he survives a very tense situation. Less than one minute. Souza still firm on the back. Round ends with Carmont spinning to the top, but MMAjunkie gives it to Souza, 10-9.

Round 2 – Punches traded to start. Souza kicks the leg and then rushes forward, but Carmont pushes him away. Carmont fires off a few jabs. He’s in a karate-like stance, not giving Souza much in terms of width. Souza comes forward with strikes, and Carmont smiles at him. Good back and forth between the two right now. Souza stalking, but Carmont doing abetter job of keeping him away. Souza shoots from range, but Carmont stops it and then defends against the cage. Souza throws a few punches when they break, and Carmont waves him in. Souza misses a high kick. Carmont throwing big punches. He kicks the body and throws a right hand. Souza stalking, and he tries again for a takedown that won’t come. Carmont not really landing clean, but he’s throwing big punches. Round ends on the feet, and MMAjunkie gives it to Carmont, 10-9. Very close.

Round 3 – Carmont using range early, popping out a long jab. Souza deliver a few big punches to the body. Carmont misses a huge right hand, and Souza seizes the moment and presses him to the floor. Souza immediately on the back and looking for a choke. Carmont defends well once again, but he’s in trouble again. He knows it, so he looks to turn. Souza tries to keep control, and he gets a hook in to hold the spot. Time ticking away. Carmont tries to move, but Souza gets again to his back. Carmont tries to muscle his way out of the figure-four, but Souza keeps his position. Carmont punching behind his own head, but Souza is there. Souza looks for the choke, but Carmont keeps his chin tucked and again stays out of trouble. Carmont tries desperately to shake free, but he can’t get Souza away. More backward punches. time ticking away. Souza goes again for the choke. It won’t come, but Souza knows he got the job done. MMAjunkie gives the third to Souza, 10-9, giving him the fight 29-28.

Round 1 – Mousasi with an early low kick. Machida circling to his left as they both feel out the distance. Machida kicks the leg. He continues to circle. Mousasi avoids another low kick. He’s very patient to open. Mousasi misses a jab. Machida blasts him with a kick to the body. Mousasi still continually circling. Mousasi kicks the leg and then slips a few counterpunches. Machida just misses a big uppercut. Machida finally plants his legs, but Mousasi looking to counter rather than strike first. Crowd starts to chant Machida’s name. Mousasi kicks the body. He’s starting to chase just a little bit more. One minute left. Machida just misses a big left hand. Mousasi blocks a kick to the body. Round ends on the feet, and MMAjunkie gives it to Machida, 10-9.

Round 2 – Machida out quickly. This time, he doesn’t circle. Mousasi kicks the leg. Machida slips a right hand and then kicks the leg. Machida lands a left hand. Mousasi still yet to really unleash. Low kicks traded. Punches traded in a flurry. Machida goes high with a kick. Mousasi catches it but can’t counter with anything. Machida looks very comfortable. He kicks low and slips a right hand. He’s back to circling. Mousasi kicks to thee body. Machida rushes forward with punches, then lands a slick kick to the face. Mousasi gets inside and lands a few short punches. He’s starting to push forward a little more. Mousasi kicks the knee. Nice work from Mousasi to close, but MMAjunkie gives the second to Machida, 10-9.

Round 3 – Mousasi again forcing the issue a bit, looking to track down Machida. Mousasi looks for a takedown, but Machida pulls away. They work from the clinch, and knees are traded inside. Nice left hand for Machida. A right scores, as well. Spinning kick to the body for Machida. High kick to the arms for Machida. He looks very confident. Two punches into a leaping kick for Machida. Mousasi ooks dangerous, but he’s not staying busy. Mousasi’s nose bleeding, but he lands a pair of stiff left hands. Still, Machida right back with rushing punches that see him move quickly out of range. Machida thinks takedown, but Mousasi sniffs it out. Machida starting to drop his hands and wag his chin a bit. Round ends there, and MMAjunkie gives it to Machida, 10-9.

Round 4 – Once again, Machida circles as Mousasi takes the center. Mousasi drives in on a takedown but can’t establish the position, and Machida escapes to his feet. Machida shuffling his feet, looking extremely relaxed. Mousasi kicks the leg. Machida lands with a right and shoves Mousasi to the floor. He passes the legs and pushes to the floor, where he settles into his opponent’s guard. Mousasi battles into a smooth sweep to the top. Machida from guard, and he tries to attack the left arm and then looks for an oma plata. Mousasi postures to strike. He wants the back, but he’s too high, and he does over the top. Machida settles on top, but there’s an illegal upkick from Mousasi. Referee Mario Yamasaki calls for a break but lets them fight on with no penalty. Round ends, and MMAjunkie gives it to Mousasi, 10-9.

Round 5 – Mousasi again walks forward to start. He kicks the leg, but Machida counters over the top with rapid punches. Capoeira kick blocked, but it looks spetacular for Machida. Mousasi stalking, but Machida blasts him with a kick to the body. Mousasi presses, but Machida pushes him to the floor and now sets up in top position with time winding down. Mousasi turns, and Machida takes the back. Final minute. Machida controls the position until the very end. Final scramble, but Machida wins it. MMAjunkie gives the final round to Machida, 10-9, awarding him the fight 49-46.
