Brad Tavares defeated Lorenz Larkin by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 35 on Saturday night.
Tavares outworked Larkin for the majority of three rounds, earning scores of 29-28, 29-28 and 29-28 from the judges.
Larkin looked light on the feet early on, throwing a combination of strikes with punches and kicks. Tavares stayed calm as his opponent showed quickness, and countered with combinations that landed significant strikes. Tavares secured Larkin’s back before the end of the first round, finishing the time period on the ground with short strikes to the head.
Tavares stayed active as the second round began, landing shots up top and to the body. Larkin attempted countering many of his opponents strikes, but found himself taking in more damage than he countered. A takedown towards the latter stages of the second round secured the time frame for Tavares.
The continued activity from Tavares edged him closer to the win as the third round counted down. Larkin did well to prevent takedowns, and even landed a number of elbows as his opponent clinched, but Tavares persevered as time ran out and the fight went to decision.
Tavares wins his 12th career win to only one loss, while Larkin loses the second fight of his career.
