The UFC returned to Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on Wednesday, and with numerous finishes and gutsy performances, there were plenty of options for the UFC Fight Night 28 post-fight awards.
UFC officials, however, quickly narrowed it down and handed out $50,000 fighter bonuses to four deserving athletes.
UFC president Dana White announced the bonuses immediately following the fights.
Not surprisingly, main eventer Glover Teixeira scored the Knockout of the Night bonus for his first-round stoppage of Ryan Bader.
Bader made it interesting, rocking Teixeira early, but the Brazilian fired back with a vengeance, taking Bader out, and making himself the consensus choice for the next shot at the UFC light heavyweight championship.
UFC newcomer Poland’s Piotr Hallmann was on the verge of defeat against Brazilian Francisco Trinaldo in their main card match-up, but he somehow survived some crushing body kicks in the opening round. He found a Kimura in round two and wouldn’t let go until Trinaldo gave in, earning the Submission of the Night honors.
The Fight of the Night was awarded to another pair of main eventers in Rafael “Sapo” Natal and Tor Troeng.
Natal looked like he would finish the fight on numerous occasions, but Troeng displayed an amazing degree of toughness to survive the full three rounds. Natal took home a unanimous decision victory, but they both go home with an extra $50,000.
