Round 1: Figueroa with a wild overhand right, but it misses its target. These two start to go at it and the crowd goes nuts! Wild punches being throw, any of which could end this fight quickly. McDonald with a hard low kick and Figueroa follows that up with a strong mid kick. After a wild exchange, McDonald lands a nice right hand that gets the crowd screaming. McDonald is getting the better of the exchanges so far with a little over a minute to go in the first. Nice strong takedown by McDonald. Figueroa works back to the feet and attempts another overhand right that misses its mark. The round ends with Figueroa stumbling back from a right hand by McDonald. 10-9 McDonald.
Round 2: Figueroa attempts a high kick and McDonald eats it, but gets his opponent down. McDonald gets Figueroa’s back and is working for a rear naked choke. It looks deep, but he gets out of it! McDonald now transitioning to armbar. He almost had it, but Figueroa avoids it. Now working from guard, Figueroa gets caught in a triangle, but McDonald lets it go because the positioning wasn’t tight enough. The round ends with Figueroa stacking up his opponent. 10-9 McDonald.
Round 3: The two fighter hug it out at the beginning of the round. Figueroa looks tired to begin the final five minute set. Not much action in the first minute and a half, but then the two engage in an exchange that gets the crowd going. Fight goes to the ground and McDonald works from Figueroa’s guard. The two get back to the feet, but McDonald gets a strong takedown. Figueroa is able to reverse it and lands in side control. After a transition to McDonald’s guard, Figueroa stands and tells his opponent to get up. McDonald with a good shot to Figueroa’s right side and gets a takedown a short while later. The round ends with McDonald in his opponent’s guard and MMA Weekly scores it 30-27 for McDonald.
