UFC Fight Night 101 results: Jason Knight outworks Dan Hooker over three rounds for decision win

MELBOURNE, Australia – Jason Knight came into the octagon with considerably less anger in his bout against Dan Hooker, but still found a way to throw all of his heart into every shot.

Even after Hooker (13-7 MMA, 3-3 UFC) dragged him into deep waters, Knight (15-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) gutted it out and continued to fire away until judges ruled him the winner.

The featherweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 101 event at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass ahead of the rest of the card on FS1.

The final scorecards were 29-28, 30-27 and 30-26 for Knight, who survived a last-second surge from Hooker to pick up his second straight UFC win after an emotionally charged performance against Jim Alers.

From the outset, Knight made it known he wanted to slug it out against Hooker. Instead, he found an opponent with a relaxed demeanor who seemed content to circle and pick his shots, all with a smile on his face. A sneaky straight left allowed Hooker to stop the onslaught and reset, frustrating the aggressor.

It took a quick takedown, a flurry of punches and a near choke against the fence for Knight to wipe the grin off. As it turned out, Hooker wasn’t prepared for a ground onslaught, so the aggressive he took his cue.

A takedown in the second led to several near-finishes in the second round as Knight controlled the back and worked his arms into choke position. Hooker grimaced on several occasions and looked like he was about to tap at any moment. But he hung in for the final frame.

Down on the scorecards, Hooker got serious in the third round and chased an exhausted Knight around the cage. This time, his takedown attempts were well telegraphed and easy to pick off, allowing Hooker to stand and trade and nearly get a last-second tap.

Hooker continues to bounce between wins and losses after a 94-second submission over Mark Eddiva in his previous performance.
