UFC Fight Night 101 in Australia gets 3 new additions

Next month’s UFC Fight Night 101 lineup has a trio of new additions.

They include lightweights Yusuke Kasuya (9-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) vs. Alex Volkanovski (13-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC), flyweights Geane Herrera (9-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) vs. Ben Nguyen (16-6 MMA, 2-1 UFC), and lightweights Damien Brown (16-9 MMA, 1-1 UFC) vs. Jon Tuck (9-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC).

UFC officials today announced the bouts via dailytelegraph.com.au and couriermail.com.au.

UFC Fight Night 101 takes place Nov. 26 (Nov. 27 in Australia) at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The event airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Kasuya (against Damir Hadzovic) and Volkanovski (against Tuck) were slated to fight this weekend at UFC Fight Night 97 before the event’s recent cancellation. They’re now slated for a new matchup against each other.

Kasuya, a 26-year-old Japanese fighter and Legend FC/Shooto vet, was on a 3-0-1 run before signing with the UFC in 2015. However, he suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Nick Hein in his promotional debut. He now returns from an extended layoff to fight Volkanovski, a 28-year-old Australian fighter who makes his long-awaited (and twice-delayed) UFC debut while riding a 10-fight winning streak (with nine stoppages) on the regional circuit.

Herrera, meanwhile, is a 26-year-old Californian who looks to even up his UFC record after sandwiching a TKO win over Joby Sanchez with decision losses to Ray Borg and Ali Bagautinov. He meets Nguyen, a 28-year-old who won nine straight fights, which included UFC victories over Alp Ozkilic and Ryan Benoit, before a recent TKO loss to Louis Smolka.

Finally, Brown is a 31-year-old Australian who looks for his seventh win in eight fights. He recently rebounded from a unanimous-decision loss to Alan Patrick in his UFC debut with a knockout win over Cesar Arzamendia at UFC 201. He meets Tuck, a 32-year-old from Guam who’s alternated between wins and losses during his six-bout UFC career. He most recently suffered a split-decision defeat to Josh Emmett.
