UFC 171's Condit-Woodley winner guaranteed a title shot? Not so fast

DALLAS – While this weekend’s Carlos Condit (29-7 MMA, 6-3 UFC) vs. Tyron Woodley (12-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) bout appears to be a de facto No. 1 contender fight at 170 pounds, UFC President Dana White wants to make it clear nothing is promised.

“There’s no guarantees, anywhere, ever in life,” White told USA TODAY Sports.

White spoke to a small group of reporters following Thursday’s pre-UFC 171 Ultimate Media Day event at Dallas’ American Airlines Center, the same venue that hosts Saturday’s pay-per-view broadcast event.

In the UFC 171 headliner, Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler meet with the UFC’s vacated welterweight belt on the line, a contest necessitated by former champ Georges St-Pierre’s recent decision to take a break from competition.

Condit and Woodley face off in the co-feature, and in the buildup to this weekend’s blockbuster card, both have said they expect to earn a title shot with a win. White certainly wasn’t ruling out that possibility, but he pointed to UFC 171's Hector Lombard vs. Jake Shields fight, as well as a few other key welterweight contests on the horizon as reason for both Condit and Woodley to realize it may take a little more than just a win for the victor to earn a crack at the belt.

“They’re going to have to come out and perform, and we’ll see what happens,” White said.
