UFC 170 Weigh-in Results: Rousey and McMann Ready for First Olympian vs. Olympian Match-up

Ronda Rousey and Sara McMannThe Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Las Vegas this week after skipping its annual stop in Sin City on Super Bowl weekend in favor of Newark, N.J., in deference to its TV partners at Fox. The UFC 170: Rousey vs. McMann weigh-ins took place Friday afternoon at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, making the 11-bout fight card official.

UFC 170 takes place on Saturday night with women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey putting her belt on the line against fellow former Olympian Sara McMann in the night’s main event, while Daniel Cormier faces newcomer Patrick Cummins in the co-headliner.

Daniel Cormier vs Patrick Cummins

Rousey has said she is stepping into the toughest challenge of her career, in no small part because of McMann’s Olympic background. Both having medalled in the Olympics, Rousey knows the dedication and mental make-up that McMann brings to the Octagon and gives her a lot of respect in that regard.

“I think it’s an amazing historic event for the UFC. It’s not two guys fighting that you found in the back of a bar,” said Rousey when asked her thoughts on being part of the first UFC bout to feature Olympian vs. Olympian. “These are the best athletes that you can find in the entire world that are fighting for the biggest title in the entire world. This is huge for everyone.”

McMann was a little more frugal with her words, “This is gonna be the best women’s fight that the UFC has ever had.”

Cormier is making his first start in the light heavyweight division. He was originally slated to fight Rashad Evans on Saturday, but Evans had to withdraw due to injury. So now Cormier faces a man that he’s trained with in the past, Patrick Cummins, who is a Octagon newcomer with All-American wrestling credentials.

While Cormier and Cummins got a little physical – some pushing and shoving – at the pre-fight press conference, they both easily made weight and played nice when squaring off after stepping off the scale.
