UFC 168 results, photos: Jim Miller submits Fabricio Camoes with first-round armbar

LAS VEGAS – Returning to the octagon after an eight-month layoff, Jim Miller‘s jiu-jitsu skills were on display against Fabricio Camoes.

In a perfect execution of technique, Miller used Camoes’ aggression against him and secured a tapout via armbar in the first round.

The lightweight bout was part of the main card of today’s UFC 168 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and MMAjunkie.

Camoes looked to take the fight down early, but settled into a striking rhythm with Miller, who came out behind in subsequent striking exchanges. When Camoes went high with a kick, Miller used the attempt to take the fight to the mat. The ground-savvy Camoes reversed, however, and went to work with punches.

Unfortunately for the Brazilian, Miller lifted his legs and secured an armbar. Camoes was forced to tap after a brief struggle. The official time of stoppage 3:42 of the first round.

Afterward, Miller said he worked on swapping pure aggression for technique.

“You’ve seen Mr. Hyde, but I try to bring out Dr. Jekyll, and he’s a killer, too,” he said.

On paper, Jim Miller (23-4 MMA, 12-3 UFC) stays in the win column after his previous bout was changed to a no-contest due to opponent Pat Healy testing positive for marijuana. Camoes (14-8-1 MMA, 1-3-1 UFC), who spent more than a year on the bench, now has lost back-to-back fights.
