UFC 168 bonuses: Rousey, Tate, Browne earn $75K, Rousey doubles up

MMA: UFC 168-Rousey vs Tate

LAS VEGAS – Ronda RouseyMiesha Tate and Travis Browne each earned $75,000 bonuses for their performances at Saturday’s UFC 168 event, and Rousey doubled up with another $75,000.

Rousey earned the “Submission of the Night,” Browne won “Knockout of the Night” and Rousey and Tate picked up “Fight of the Night” honors. The double bonus gave Rousey a total of $150,000 in bonus money.

UFC President Dana White announced the winners at the night’s post-event news conference, which MMAjunkie attended. The post-fight bonus awards typically are $50,000 – but White has said in the past he reserves the right to up them for special occasions. With a live gate reported by White at $6.2 million on Saturday, UFC 168 appears to be one of those.

UFC 168 took place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and MMAjunkie.

Rousey (8-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and Tate (13-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC) went back and forth, but ultimate it was Rousey’s signature move that put an end to Tate’s night. But it wasn’t before Tate did something no one else before her had done – she got to the second round against the UFC women’s bantamweight champ. Then she got to the third. But once there, after fending off several previous armbar attempts from Rousey, Tate finally had to succumb.

Browne (16-1-1 MMA, 7-1-1 UFC) needed only one minute to shut down former UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett (33-7 MMA, 5-2 UFC). With Barnett dropping down for a takedown, Browne started raining down elbows to his left temple. It only took a couple for Browne to be out, and a couple more were enough for referee Yves Lavigne to step in to stop things.
