UFC officials Tuesday announced the booking, which takes place Sept. 21 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto. UFC 165 is headlined by a light heavyweight title bout pitting champion Jon Jones against challenger Alexander Gustafsson and will also see Renan Barao defend his interim bantamweight belt against former WEC champ Eddie Wineland.
Philippou, 33, rides a five-fight winning streak into his clash with Carmont. The Cyprus-born New Yorker debuted with the UFC in 2011 and posted three victories last year, outpointing Court McGee and Riki Fukuda before stopping Tim Boetsch this past December at UFC 155.
Carmont, meanwhile, has not lost since 2008, rattling off five straight victories to start his UFC career. Like his opponent, the 31-year-old Frenchman also picked up three wins last year but most recently competed on April 20, when he was awarded a controversial unanimous decision win over Lorenz Larkin at UFC on Fox 7.
