UFC 163 draws announced attendance of 13,873 fans in Rio de Janeiro

RIO DE JANEIRO – Saturday’s UFC 163 pay-per-view event drew an announced attendance of 13,873 fans. No estimated live gate was announced.

UFC executive Marshall Zelaznik announced the figures at the night’s post-event news conference, which MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) attended.

UFC 163 took place at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. The main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.

The main event was a featherweight title fight between champ Jose Aldo and “The Korean Zombie,” Chan Sung Jung. Aldo defended his title with a fourth-round TKO that occurred shortly after Jung appeared to separate his shoulder throwing a combination.

In the co-main event, Phil Davis upset Brazil’s Lyoto Machida with a unanimous decision victory – one that the crowd in attendance disputed.

Saturday’s event marks the UFC’s fourth trip to HSBC Arena following UFC 134, UFC 142 and UFC 153. At UFC 153 this past October, headlined by Anderson Silva, 16,844 fans attended at the same venue.
