Three fighters on UFC 160's main card are among those who could be on the shelf upwards of six months.
Co-main event heavyweight Mark Hunt, light heavyweight contender Glover Teixeira and two-time lightweight title challenger Gray Maynard all could be out for as much as 180 days. Four fighters on the preliminary card were given the same orders.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) requested and received the list of suspensions from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which regulated the event.
UFC 160 took place this past Saturday at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.
Hunt was knocked out by Junior dos Santos in the co-main event, but it was a broken toe in the fight that could shelve him for a while. The loss led to a minimum suspension of 60 days with no contact for 45 days after dos Santos landed a spinning kick to the head and followed it up with a big right hand on the ground for the knockout.
Teixeira made relatively easy work of James Te Huna, earning a first-round submission. But he’ll need injuries to his right hand and left elbow to be cleared by a doctor or he’ll be out of action for six months.
And in a lightweight title eliminator, Maynard was upset by T.J. Grant with a first-round TKO. Maynard will be out a minimum of 60 days, but as long as six months if an ophthalmologist give him the OK on his right eye.
On the preliminary card, Dennis Bermudez, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Stephen Thompson and Brian Bowles all could be out as long as six months. Of that group, only Bowles lost his fight – a second-round TKO against George Roop.
The night’s bloodiest contest, the card-opening featherweight fight between Estevan Payan and Jeremy Stephens, resulted in a 60-day suspension for Payan due to the many cuts he suffered in the bout.
