It wasn’t necessarily his best performance, but Michael Bisping (24-5 MMA, 14-5 UFC) did pitch a near shutout against fellow top-ranked middleweight Alan Belcher (18-8 MMA, 9-6 UFC).
The two outspoken rivals met in the co-main event of Saturday’s UFC 159 pay-per-view event at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
With both fighters coming off of a loss, each needed a win to keep themselves relevant in the UFC’s 185-pound title picture. Bisping responded to the challenge, and we was consistently the quicker and busier fighter throughout the three-round fight. The contest ended in unfortunate fashion, as an inadvertent eye poke left Belcher’s eye bloodied, resulting in a the fight going to the cards 18 seconds early. Bisping was awarded the win with scores of 30-27, 30-27, 29-28.
