The Ultimate Fighting Championship awarded $65,000 for each performance based bonus following UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on Saturday.
Pat Healy, Jim Miller and Roy Nelson took home the bonus money.
Lightweights Pat Healy and Jim Miller earned Fight of the Night honors for their back-and-forth contest that kicked off the Pay-Per-View portion of the event. Miller used speed and boxing to take the opening round, but Healy’s size and tenacity took over as the fight wore on. Healy took Miller to the ground late in the final round, took his back and secured a rear naked choke finish with less than a minute remaining in the fight.
Healy’s efforts also earned him the Submission of the Night bonus, banking him $130,000 in total bonus money for his UFC debut.
The Knockout of the Night award went to Roy Nelson for his first round knockout of Cheick Kongo in heavyweight action. Nelson landed an overhand right that dropped Kongo early in the opening round. He finished with another well-placed punch on the ground that rendered the Frenchman unconscious.
The bonus money handed out following UFC 159 totaled $260,000.
