UFC 158 Adds Another Welterweight Bout: Sean Pierson vs. Rick Story

UFC 158 St Pierre vs Diaz PosterUFC officials have been hard at work on the fight cards for the first quarter of 2013, the latest addition being a welterweight bout between Sean Pierson and Rick Story on the fight card already chalk full of 170-pounders.

Canadian officials for the promotion announced the new UFC 158 addition on Tuesday.

A former Toronto police officer, Pierson (13-6) has been fighting off and on since 1999. He finally made his way to the Octagon in late 2010, winning his debut fight for the organization, before stumbling with back-to-back losses in 2011.

2012, however, was a good year for Pierson, who won unanimous decisions over both Jake Hecht and Lance Benoist, and he hopes to keep the momentum rolling into the New Year.

Taking on Story (14-6), he faces a man with his back against the wall.

Story, in 2010 and 2011, was rocketing towards a title shot, winning six straight fights, even defeating the likes of Thiago Alves and current top welterweight contender Johny Hendricks.

He ran into a brick will, however, losing consecutive bouts to Charlie Brenneman and Martin Kampmann. He has since won a decision over Brock Jardine, but followed that up with a loss to Demian Maia late last year.

In short, Story needs a victory if he wants to ensure his UFC tenure.

Pierson vs. Story is one of no less than six welterweight bouts currently slated for the UFC 158 fight card on March 16 in Montreal.

The main event features Georges St-Pierre putting his belt on the line against Nick Diaz. If Diaz falls back into past bad habits, not doing what the UFC requires for public relations or fight promotion, they intend to be more than prepared forĀ  someone else to be ready to step into the main event and keep the fight alive.
