UFC 153: Silva vs. Bonnar Weigh-in Results

Acting the part of saviors, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and one of the original Ultimate Fighters, Stephan Bonnar, first had to step on the scale to weigh-in on Friday before they step in the Octagon to dazzle the UFC 153 crowd at the sold-out HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday night.

As expected, Silva received a thunderous reception as he made his way to the stage before his home country crowd.

Coming up from his normal class of 185 pounds, Silva, not surprisingly, stepped on the scale a somewhat light 202 pounds, remaining much more humble with Bonnar than he was when Chael Sonnen got under his skin in July.

“I always appreciate all my Brazilian fans and I hope to give a good fight,” he said after stepping off the scale.

Bonnar is a rather large light heavyweight, but even given the short-notice aspect of the fight, he came in on weight at 205 pounds.

Asked by Joe Rogan if he thought he would shock the world on Saturday night, Bonnar remained just as humble as Silva.

“Hey, Joe, you’ve seen my fights right? I’m not gonna do anything different than I do any time I get in the Octagon.”

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira got a huge pop from the Brazilian fans, although it came nowhere near rivaling Silva’s, while his opponent, Dave Herman, walked out to a steady chorus of boos for the heavyweight showdown.

There was a hardy crowd in attendance for the weigh-ins, and the first two fighters on the scale, Cristiano Marcello and Reza Madadi, got them worked up right off the bat when they went at each other after weighing in. Cooler heads prevailed and they instead saved the fisticuffs for Saturday.
