UFC 135 Fight Card Loses Two Bouts, Adds Junior Assuncao vs. Eddie Yagin

The UFC on Wednesday night announced that two bouts planned for UFC 135: Jones vs. Rampage have been scrapped. A featherweight battle between Diego Nunes and Manny Gamburyan and a bantamweight clash between Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto and Damacio Page were both cancelled when all four fighters suffered injuries.

One of the fights added to the mix to make up for the loss of those two contests is 145-pound bout between returning UFC veteran Junior Assuncao and Octagon newcomer Eddie Yagin. MMAWeekly.com previously reported the likelihood of the Assuncao vs. Yagin match-up.

It will be nearly four years to the day that Assuncao (12-4) last set foot in the Octagon when he faces Yagin. He has gone 7-1 since, including winning his six most recent bouts.

Yagin (15-4-1) has also gone 7-1 in his last eight bouts. He finally earned his shot in the UFC after more than a decade of fighting professionally when he defeated former Bellator champion Joe Soto at Tachi Palace Fights 10 in August.

The two will likely take up a slot on the preliminary fight card.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones squares off with former champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in the UFC 135 main event on Sept. 24 in Denver.
