Two Fighters Miss Weight at UFC Mexico City Weigh-in | MMAWeekly.com

The UFC Fight Night 98: dos Anjos vs. Ferguson early official weigh-in took place Friday morning in Mexico City, but it wasn’t without a fair amount of controversy, as two fighters missed weight. 

None of the main or co-main event fighters had trouble making weight. Rafael dos Anjos and Tony Ferguson headline the card, while Diego Sanchez and Marcin Held square off in the co-main event.

However, Charles Oliveira, who is slated to face Ricardo Lamas, inexplicably weighed in at 155 pounds, a full 9 pounds over the 146-pound cutoff for their featherweight bout. Even with him being so far above the limit, Lamas agreed to remain in the fight.

There were stipulations. Oliveira must pay 30-percent of his show money as a penalty that goes to Lamas. Also, he must not gain more than 10 pounds prior to the fight, meaning he has a 165-pound cutoff on Saturday night.

Oliveira’s teammate, Felipe Arantes, who was the final fighter to weigh in, also missed the mark for his bantamweight bout with Erik Perez. 

Arantes was two pounds over the 136-pound cutoff. The fight is still on, but Arantes was fined 20-percent of his show purse, which goes to Perez.

Despite accepting a 140-pound catchweight fight with Marco Beltran on less than a week’s notice, Joe Soto, looking exhausted and hunched over before stepping on the scale in the final minutes of the weigh-in, hit the 140-pound mark on the nose.

Martin Bravo and Claudio Puelles also both made weight. They will be fighting to win The Ultimate Fighter Latin America 3 tournament final on Saturday night in Mexico City.
