The MMA world exploded on Thursday when the Nevada State Athletic Commission passed a unanimous vote to ban therapeutic-use exemptions for testosterone-replacement therapy in combat sports, effective immediately.
The reactions to the stunning vote proposed by “Skip” Avansino were a mix of shock and jubilation, as the decision will drastically alter the landscape of the sport going forward.
While details regarding what this means for known TRT users such as Vitor Belfort, Chael Sonnen, Dan Henderson, Frank Mir and a handful of others are yet to be learned, the reaction from the MMA community seems supportive of the NSAC’s decision.

NSAC finally banning TRT is positive for all combat sports, but increases need for CIR/IRMS & out-of-comp PED testing.

Abruptly stopping TRT is not always easy. Can be medical repercussions lasting many months. This is irrespective of reason they began using.

Commission jurisdiction shopping has always existed. Penn/MD have never allowed TUE’s for TRT.
— Vada-Testing.org (@Vada_Testing) February 27, 2014
Discontinuing TRT must be done under strict medical supervision; timeframe depends on why person using in first place.

Man, lots of fighters who would die without TRT are going to perish because of the NSAC. I hope they’re happy leaving bodies in their wake.

Took about 12 seconds for the first “Will Vitor fake an injury so he doesn’t have to fight in Nevada?” question to come in.
