Holly Holm brought the Ronda Rousey hype train to a screeching halt when she pulled off one of the biggest upsets in MMA history at UFC 193.
Holm (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) captured the UFC women’s bantamweight championship from Rousey (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) with the help of a perfectly placed head kick that led to a vicious second-round knockout victory at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium.
“Rowdy” was a heavy favorite and expected by most to run through Holm as she has all other opponents. Holm wasn’t having it, though, and delivered the performance needed to become just the second 135-pound titleholder in UFC history.
