In a battle of top middleweights in need of a win, Gegard Mousasi (35-4-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) submitted Mark Munoz (13-5 MMA, 8-5 UFC) in the first round of today’s UFC Fight Night 41 headliner at O2 World Berlin in Germany.
After dropping a decision to Lyoto Machida in February in his return to the octagon from a knee injury, Mousasi reclaimed his status as a title contender by becoming the first man to submit Munoz in MMA competition.
To see what fighters, journalists and other personalities in the MMA community thought about Mousasi’s first victory at 185 pounds since September 2008, check out the Twitter reactions below.

Mark Munoz, nicest guy in MMA vs. Gegard Mousasi, least excitable guy in MMA. Who you got? — Ben Fowlkes (@benfowlkesMMA) May 31, 2014
Mousasi appears homeless?

That take of the back off of Munoz’s takedown was absolutely ridiculous. This was some form of the Mousasi people always wet dreamed about. — Jordan Breen (@jordanbreen) May 31, 2014
Gegard was so smooth and relazed fighting off tkdwn attempts, great performance

That was tough to watch. Munoz is one of the very best people in this biz. Impressive win for Mousasi. — Dave Doyle (@davedoylemma) May 31, 2014
Wow. Easily the best performance of Mousasi’s UFC career. Dominates Mark Munoz then jumps on a RNC finish at the end of the first.

Gegard looked good, damn dominant performance!
— Luke Rockhold (@LukeRockhold) May 31, 2014
WOW!!!! Total domination by Mousasi. I never understood how the media had him ranked 11 after going distance with #1 Machida — Dana White (@danawhite) May 31, 2014
Mousasi thinks he’ll get Rockhold or Kennedy to get closer to a title shot. Meanwhile, Munoz limps back on what looks like a bad left knee.
