In the spirit of past year end mega shows, UFC 155 will close out 2012 with one of the biggest cards of the year.
The show takes place on Dec 29 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Since their last fight, dos Santos went on to knockout former champion Frank Mir, while Velasquez dispatched Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in dominant fashion.
“Cain is on a mission to get the belt back and avenge the only loss of his career,” UFC President Dana White said. “He wants to prove that he’s still the best heavyweight in the world. But Junior is one of the hardest-hitting fighters ever and he proved that by knocking out Cain and Frank Mir in back to back fights. This is the perfect fight to end 2012!”
In addition to the heavyweight title clash, former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin will go toe-to-toe with former NCAA champion Phil Davis in a 205lb showdown. Griffin was originally set to face UFC bad boy Chael Sonnen, but he was pulled in favor of coaching the new Ultimate Fighter opposite Jon Jones.
Now Griffin draws an equally tough if not tougher match-up with top ten light heavyweight talent Phil Davis.
Also on the card, Chris Weidman will look to keep his undefeated record in tact when he faces heavy hitting fighter Tim Boetsch. Both middleweights are gunning for a shot at Anderson Silva’s 185lb title, and a win at UFC 155 would assuredly move them in that direction.
A lightweight bout between former title contender Gray Maynard and Joe Lauzon will also grace the main card for the UFC 155 pay-per-view. Both Maynard and Lauzon are looking to get back into title shot territory on the Dec 29 show.
