Three hometown fighters booked for July's Cage Warriors 57 in Liverpool

danny-roberts-1.jpgCage Warriors’ return to Liverpool, England, has started to take shape with the card’s first five fights.

On the main card of Cage Warriors 57, Danny Roberts (8-1) meets Mauro Chimento (15-10) at welterweight; Lee Chadwick (16-10-1) takes on Mats Nilsson (10-2-1) at middleweight; and at featherweight, Chris Fishgold (8-0) faces Marcin Wrzosek (6-1).

The prelims will feature Mohsen Bahari (5-0) vs. Matt Inman (10-5) in a welterweight bout, plus Saul Rogers (6-1) vs. Lew Long (7-2) at lightweight.

Cage Warriors officials on Monday announced the five fights. Cage Warriors 57 takes place July 20 at Echo Arena in Liverpool, which will host its first show with the promotion since “Cage Warriors 21: Enter the Wolfslair” in 2006. The main card will air on MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) following prelims on Facebook.

Roberts, a Liverpudlian, will be seeking his third straight win. Just this past month, he stopped Diego Gonzazlez at Cage Warriors 54 with a second-round TKO. In July 2012 at Cage Warriors 48, he submitted Jack Mason in the second round. He’s 3-0 overall under the Cage Warriors banner. Chimento from Brazil, has dropped three of his past five. He’s 1-1 for Cage Warriors, including a second-round submission of Domingos Mestre in May at Cage Warriors Fight Night 8. That victory got him a “Submission of the Night” bonus.

Liverpool’s Chadwick has won four straight and five of his past six after a three-fight skid in 2011. This will be his first fight for Cage Warriors since his pro debut, a 31-second submission loss to Karl Amoussou in 2006. He has 13 of his 15 wins by stoppage, including one two and a half years ago over current Cage Warriors welterweight champ Cathal Pendred. His lone two decision wins came in his most recent outings. Sweden’s Nilsson has won six of seven and is 2-0 for Cage Warriors. At Cage Warriors 53 in April, he outpointed Chris Scott to get back in the win column after a decision loss to future “TUF” and UFC fighter Tor Troeng.

Fishgold, also from Liverpool, will put his unbeaten record on the line. In March, he made his Cage Warriors debut with a 94-second guillotine submission win over Steve O’Keefe at Cage Warriors 52. Seven of the 21-year-old Brit’s eight wins have come by submission. Wrzosek, from Poland, will be making his Cage Warriors debut on the strength of two straight wins in 2013, both by first-round stoppage.

Bahari, from Norway, won his Cage Warriors debut in September with a decision win over Piotr Ptasinski – the first time he had to go the distance in a fight after four straight stoppages. England’s Inman got back in the win column this past month with a TKO of Leon Kenge at Cage Warriors 54.

England’s Rogers will look to rebound from the first loss of his pro career, a third-round submission in December. He’ll make his Cage Warriors debut against Long, from Wales, who is 1-1 for Cage Warriors with a decision win over Mark Glover in May.
