'The Ultimate Fighter' will be 'something completely different and new' in 2015

After 10 years and 20 domestic installments, it appears “The Ultimate Fighter” will go undergo a major overhaul in 2015.

The long-running reality series, which has launched the careers of hundreds of UFC fighters (and even a few champions), has seen declining ratings due to the familiar concept, a recent lack of blue-chip prospects, and the move from Spike TV to FX and FOX Sports 1 in 2012.

However, the show, which features a tournament format as the fighters live side by side in the “TUF” house, will apparently see a new format in 2015.

“We’re working on something completely different and new in the United States this year,” UFC President Dana White said during Monday’s 2015 schedule unveiling in Las Vegas. “So yeah, ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ is going to keep rolling on.

“It’s been very successful here in a lot of other countries.”

Aside from a few tweaks – “TUF 4? was a special “comeback” season of the show, “TUF 15? featured a live format, and “TUF 18? used a coed cast, for example – the show has remained largely the same over the years.

While the domestic show, which usually features two UFC veterans as head coaches of opposing teams, is apparently undergoing an overhaul, White suggested the newer international editions will resume largely with the same format.

The fourth installment of “TUF: Brazil” kicks off in 2015. More than 600 fighters recently attended an open tryout:

However, instead of filming in Brazil, officials confirmed the show will head to the U.S.

Additionally, after a successful first installment “TUF: Latin America,” the show returns for a second season next year. And in addition to Latin America, the organization may pull in some talent from Spain, officials recently told MMAjunkie.

White didn’t mention any concrete plans for “TUF: Nations” and “TUF: China,” which debuted in 2012 and 2014, respectively.
