Stefan Struve Doesn't Think He's Earned Title Shot Just Yet | MMAWeekly.com

Coming off his submission win over Daniel Omielanczuk at UFC 204, heavyweight Stephan Struve now has three victories in his last four fights, but he doesn’t necessarily think he’s placed himself in title contention just yet.

After the fight, Struve was asked if he felt like his win over Omielanczuk would move him up in the rankings, to which he responded, “I don’t really care about those rankings, but we’ll see.

“I’m definitely going up. I want a higher end guy than what I just fought. And I want to work my way up, back up to where I belong. We’ll see what the UFC has in store for us.”

Stefan StruveAmong the fights that he might have next, the possibility of avenging past losses to Mark Hunt or Alistair Overeem stand out, but it’s a win that he picked up in 2012 against current UFC champion Stipe Miocic that is most intriguing to Struve.

“I know a certain someone who is ranked No. 1 in the world right now with a belt, but I think he’d like to have that rematch, too,” Struve said. “But I need a big win to get that, too. I would love that fight, of course, but I need another win.”

Originally, Struve was to face Ruslan Magomedov at UFC 204, but he was forced off the card due to a staph infection. With both Struve and Magomedov riding UFC winning streaks, a match between the two could very well be the gateway to a shot at Miocic, who himself is coming off a successful title defense over Overeem at UFC 203 in September.
