So, Cody McKenzie’s fight shorts still had the tags on them

SACRAMENTO – Cody McKenzie pretty much fought like a guy who would show up to a UFC fight wearing generic shorts with pockets and the tags still attached.

In one of his flattest performances to date, McKenzie (14-4 MMA, 3-4 UFC) suffered a lopsided unanimous-decision loss to fellow lightweight Sam Stout (20-9-1 MA, 9-8 UFC) at tonight’s UFC on FOX 9 event.

McKenzie, competing in a FOX Sports 1-televised preliminary-card bout, had no answer for Stout’s attacks, including some jarring body shots. Despite the beatdown, though, it was hard to pull viewers’ attention away from his McKenzie’s bizarre choice of attire. Before the fight started, referee Herb Dean had to pull a tag off the apparently brand new, sponsor-less board shorts. But as seen in the clip above, there was another one lurking.

“I saw Herb Dean rip off the price tag on his shorts, but I didn’t notice he had pockets,” Stout said. “Cody does everything a bit different.”

There’s no word if something happened to McKenzie’s intended shorts – or if the notoriously laid-back fighter simply did some last-minute shopping on his way to Sacramento’s Sleep Train Arena.
