Score FS 5 Results: Josh Hill Takes Top Bantamweight Honors

PRESS RELEASE:

Hometown hero Josh Hill dominated veteran John Fraser with takedowns and top control and was able to win by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at The Score Fighting Series 5 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, on Saturday night.

Hill’s explosive double leg takedown allowed him to get Fraser to the ground repeatedly, and despite Fraser being a solid ground fighter, the 25-year old Hill was just too strong and powerful. With the big win, Hill upped his unblemished record to 9-0, and it’s possible the UFC gives him the call up to the big show in the near future. Fraser, meanwhile, fell to 10-4.

In the co-main event of the evening, Jesse Ronson and Alex Ricci engaged in a terrific three-round tilt that very well could have been “Fight of the Night,” with Ronson winning a unanimous decision (30-27, 30, 27, 30-27). Ronson looked like a world beater in this fight, displaying incredible boxing technique that allowed him to drop Ricci multiple times, as well as employing some nasty leg kicks that dropped Ricci to the ground.

And although Ricci mounted a late comeback, it wasn’t enough, as he suffered the first loss of his MMA career and dropped to 5-1. Ronson improved to 11-2 and can look forward to a step up in competition in his next The Score Fighting Series outing.

In a featherweight bout, Rick Glenn and Tristan Johnson engaged in a back-and-forth war, but after an extremely close first round, Glenn was able to stop Johnson after finishing him off with a brutal barrage of ground and pound that forced referee Yves Lavinge to step in and stop the contest at 4:26 of round two.

Glenn looked like an incredible 145-pound prospect, displaying an active guard, going for multiple submission attempts, slamming Johnson, and finally stopping him with strikes. Glenn is now 11-2-1 and called out new Score Fighting Series signee Chris Horodecki after the fight. Johnson, meanwhile, dropped to 7-3.

In the second bout of the main card, middleweight Elias Theodorou defeated Simon Marini via unanimous decision, all three judges scoring it for him 30-27. The fight was a grind, with lots of clinching and cage work throughout, but Theodorou was able to control enough of the contest to take the judges’ nod. Theodorou improved his unbeaten MMA record to 5-0, while Marini dropped to 9-5 in his career.

In the first fight of the main card, lightweight Kyle Prepolec was able to submit Jason Meisel off his back with a triangle choke at 2:58 of the second round to complete an incredible comeback after he was badly hurt by a low blow. The first round of the fight was back-and-forth, but in the second it seemed Meisel kicked Prepolec low and he took the full five minutes to recover.

However, despite being in pain, Prepolec was able to take down Meisel. Meisel was able to then reverse and get Prepolec on his back, but Prepolec sunk in a triangle choke and Meisel was forced to tap. Prepolec improved to 5-1, while Meisel fell to 3-1
