Scanlon-Head Replaced by Edwards-Maguire at UFC 138

Injuries have wiped a planned welterweight scrap between Mark Scanlon and James Head from the UFC 138 slate, promotion officials announced Wednesday. Instead, another welterweight contest has been green-lit for the Nov. 5 event, as John Maguire will face Justin Edwards.

Initially, Scanlon withdrew from his contest with Head due to injury and Maguire stepped up as Head’s replacement on Sept. 21. However, it was today announced that Head is also hurt, leaving Edwards to answer the call on short notice.

Headlined by a middleweight tilt between Chris Leben and Mark Munoz, UFC 138 will emanate from LG Arena in Birmingham, England. Also featuring a bantamweight conflict pitting Brad Pickett against Renan Barao, the event will air via same-day tape-delay on Spike TV in the United States.

Maguire (Pictured) has won his last five fights, finishing three of his conquered foes in the second round. The Brit won the Ultimate Challenge MMA welterweight title in September 2010 and defended the belt three times before signing with the UFC one week ago. His most recent outing earned him a split decision victory over Peter Irving at UCMMA 23 on Sept. 17.

Like his opponent, Edwards steps into the Octagon fresh off a victory on Sept. 17, as “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 13 alum outpointed Jorge Lopez at UFC Fight Night 25. The win came following a hard-fought loss in his UFC debut to fellow “TUF 13” cast member Clay Harvison, as “Fast Eddie” fell via split decision at the live season finale in June.
