Ultimate Fighting Championship officials announced Thursday night that Santos had withdrawn from the fight due to injury and would be replaced by Trevor Smith. However, the UFC then released an updated statement on Friday, revealing that the matchup would move forward as planned. Smith, meanwhile, will now collide with “TUF 18” alumnus Tor Troeng when the UFC returns to Dublin, Ireland.
UFC 175 takes place July 5 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and is headlined by a middleweight title confrontation pitting reigning champion Chris Weidman against former light heavyweight king Lyoto Machida.
Two weeks later, Dublin will host the UFC for the first time since 2009, when UFC Fight Night “McGregor vs. Miller” goes down at the O2 and streams live on UFC Fight Pass. The fight card is topped by a titular featherweight showdown between Conor McGregor and Cole Miller and will additionally feature a pivotal flyweight confrontation between Ian McCall and Brad Pickett.
