Roy Nelson Legal Issues With Roy Jones Jr. Behind Him, Ready For UFC Return

The legal problems that have been a thorn in the side of Roy Nelson and the UFC have finally been settled.

Nelson, who signed a deal in 2009 with Roy Jones Jr.’s Square Ring Promotions, was coming under fire from the organization for apparently still being under contract with them despite competing under the UFC banner since later that same year.

UFC president Dana White put Nelson on hold while dealing with the contract situation, but according to “The Ultimate Fighter Season 10? winner, the situation is finally closed.

“All I can simply say is it has finally been settled, and we’ll all just live a happy life because of the legal system in Las Vegas,” Nelson told MMAWeekly Radio on Monday.

While the UFC seemed rather concerned about the legal situation stemming from the contract issues between Nelson and Square Ring, the Las Vegas based fighter didn’t believe it was a huge ordeal to begin with.

“There was nothing to worry about; it was like nine months old,” Nelson commented.

One thing that Nelson learned from this situation, however, is that knowing how to work the legal system is an important tool to have at your disposal. So much so, that he might even one day become “Big Country, Attorney at Law.”

“Depending on how much money you have you can do lots of stuff with the legal system. Probably when I’m done with this I’ll probably become a lawyer just so I can sue people,” Nelson joked.

While Nelson stopped short of confirming his rumored fight against Frank Mir at UFC 130 in May, he did put it in simple terms what the legal system taught him throughout the complicated matter.

“I just want to fight,” he stated.

Nelson has been continuously training for the last few months while sidelined and will stay on that same track until his next fight with the UFC has been officially confirmed.
