Ronda Rousey provides health update in post-UFC 193 comments, says she'll 'be back'

Ronda Rousey has broken her silence following the shocking loss of her UFC women’s bantamweight title in Saturday’s UFC 193 main event.

Rousey (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) exited the octagon shortly after regaining consciousness following a Holm (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) head kick in the second round. “Rowdy” was immediately transported to the hospital following the loss of her title and did not attend the post-fight press conference to address the first defeat of her career.

UFC President Dana White revealed on Twitter that Rousey needed stitches in her mouth after she was stopped by a vicious head kick from Holm in the second round, but aside from that, was free of any major injury.

Rousey didn’t maintain her post-fight silence for long, though. She provided an update on her health via Instagram and vowed to return to the octagon after some time off, which she had planned since before the fight.

“I just wanted to thank everyone for the love and support,” Rousey wrote. “I appreciate the concerns about my health, but I’m fine. As I had mentioned before, I’m going to take a little bit of time, but I’ll be back.”

Rousey said prior to UFC 193 that she wanted to take a break until UFC 200 in July 2016 after three championship fights in less than nine months. There was some speculation the highlight reel loss could alter those plans, but that’s clearly not the case.

While it’s unknown if Rousey is still planning to compete at UFC 200, it is known that whenever she does fight again, it will likely be a rematch with Holm for the 135-pound title.
