Road FC – Korea 1 Full Fight Card Revealed; Riki Fukuda vs. Hee Seung Kim Headlines

Costa Philippou and Riki Fukuda at UFC 148The full fight card for the first of Road FC’s new monthly events has been revealed and it features a couple of recognizable Korean fighters with UFC veteran Riki Fukuda taking on Hee Seung Kim in the main event.

Road FC – Korea 1 is set for the Hilton Convention Centre in Seoul on Jan. 18. The co main event sees trash talking lightweight A Sol Kwon (16-8) looking to relaunch his career against Iranian debutant Mostafa Abdollahi.

Although this will be his first ever MMA fight, Abdollahi is a Muay Thai veteran who appeared on the most recent season of the Contender Asia and trains alongside Vuyisile Colossa in Hong Kong, so he will be well aware of what it takes to transfer his striking skills to the cage.

Kwon’s career has been derailed by back-to-back losses on either side of a stint in Korean military service. He saw a six-fight winning streak interrupted by a decision loss to Eduard Folayang at ONE FC’s inaugural event and his return to the cage last October didn’t go as planned with Japanese journeyman Koji Nakamura knocking him out at Road FC 13.

The always outspoken Kwon is known as Korea’s answer to Chael Sonnen. He will want to get his career back on track and show he is a contender to compete for the 155-pound strap recently vacated by Yui Chul Nam with a win over the relatively inexperienced Iranian.

Yoon Jun Lee (4-2) will be looking to build on the momentum he has gained with back-to-back wins over Japanese veterans when he takes on Won Gi Kim (1-3) in a featherweight match-up. Lee was regarded as one of the brightest prospects at Korea Top Team before leaving along with UFC fighter Chan Sung Jung last year.

Yong Jae Lee (7-4) was forced to pull out of the ongoing Road FC 145-Pound Grand Prix due to his inability to make the featherweight limit. He instead travelled to Japan where he was submitted by Katsunori Kikuno in a lightweight match-up that effectively punched the Japanese fighter’s UFC ticket.

That loss snapped a three-fight winning streak and Lee will be looking to get back to winning ways at 155 pounds when he takes on Doo Jae Jeong (5-12), who is known for his acrobatic striking style, but has been out of action for well over a year.

The fourth fight on the main card sees Sang Il Ahn (4-4) return to the cage for the first time since 2011 to take on Uh Jin Jeon (1-1) in a middleweight match-up. The Young Guns undercard consists of five fights featuring up-and-coming Korean mixed martial artists.
