Rick Glenn Going into the Cage to Fight Georgi Karakhanyan; the WSOF Title is a Bonus

Rick GlennPrior to his output with the World Series of Fighting, featherweight Rick “Gladiator” Glenn had been something of an unknown commodity, despite many in the industry hailing him as a top talent.

Now with his back-to-back wins in the promotion, he’s beginning to finally get his due.

“It feels great to get some recognition, to do interviews, because I’ve been training MMA for almost 10 years and started fighting when I was really young in high school, so it feels good for all of that to pay off,” Glenn told MMAWeekly.com.

“To come from fighting in school to a bigger stage (like the WSOF); it shows that I’m progressing, getting better and I’m going in the right direction.”

Since joining WSOF last year, Glenn has won back-to-back fights with the company, raising his current winning streak to seven.

“My first one was against a really top-level jiu-jitsu guy (in Alexandre Pimentel) and I knocked him out, and then (Artur Rofi) I did really good with him, even though I didn’t finish him, I feel like it was a dominating performance,” said Glenn of his WSOF output.

With his wins, Glenn (14-2-1) has earned a shot at the WSOF featherweight title against Georgi Karakhanyan (23-3-1) this Saturday in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

For Glenn, a title is a great thing to add to his resume, but it’s not his main focus Saturday night.

“I can’t get hung up on thinking about fighting for a title,” said Glenn. “It is a big deal, but you’ve got to tell yourself it’s just another fight. I’m going in there to fight this guy and the title is just a bonus.”

When it comes to fighting Karakhanyan, Glenn feels he has to not make mistakes, but still be aggressive to win the bout.

“I’ve just got to go out there and be sharp and fight confident,” said Glenn. “I have to stick to the game plan and really take it to Georgi.”

Now that he’s begun to make a name for himself in MMA, Glenn would like to capitalize on it by winning the WSOF featherweight title on Saturday and then continue to be busy throughout the remainder of 2014.

“I can’t look past Georgi right now, but I’d like to get in a few more fights before the end of the year,” said Glenn.

“WSOF has a lot of talent, has a lot of good guys coming up, and I’m not scared to fight whoever it is they put in front of me. I’m always up to fighting bigger and better people.”
