Rich Attonito Injured, Out of UFC on FX 4; Rick Story Now Meets Papy Abedi

Papy Abedi will step in for an injured Rich Attonito at UFC on FX 4 to take on Rick Story in a preliminary welterweight duel, promotion officials recently announced.

UFC on FX 4 takes place June 22 and will be highlighted by a five-round lightweight main event between Gray Maynard and Clay Guida. The event is expected to take place at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City, N.J., and the evening’s undercard will air on Fuel TV.

Abedi, 33, is still searching for his first Octagon win. The Congolese-born Swede racked up a perfect 8-0 record as a middleweight before submitting to former welterweight title challenger Thiago Alves at UFC 138 on Nov. 5. Abedi returned to the cage on April 14 and was again finished in the first round via rear-naked choke, this time courtesy of James Head. Prior to joining the UFC, the Superior Challenge veteran posted finishes in all but one of his eight career outings.

Story appeared primed for a welterweight title run after posting six consecutive UFC victories from 2009 to 2011, but he followed that unbeaten stretch by recording back-to-back losses for the first time in his career. After earning wins over Dustin Hazelett, Johny Hendricks and Thiago Alves, “The Horror” was outpointed by Charlie Brenneman this past June and then Martin Kampmann in November. Story has never been finished in his pro career and has stopped six of his 13 career victims by either knockout or submission.
